Kranji War Memorial Singapore

The Kranji War Memorial had been a military camp previously. The camp was later changed into a cemetery. This commemorates the dead Soldiers of Singapore who were killed in World War II. The Japanese actually established a prisoner-of-war camp at Kranji; the entire area consists of burial grounds. The burial ground consists of the Allied Soldiers during the Singapore War who had died in the hands of the Japanese men. The Japanese occupied the island from the years 1942-1945; they also occupied some other parts of South East Asia during that time as colony.

There were 4,461 dead bodies that were actually cremated in the Kranji War Memorial during the World War II. The graves that are found here have been under the control of the Commonwealth War Grave Commission. They cannot be moved from here due to religious obligations. The wounded servicemen and occupants who perished were brought in large numbers to these graves; most of them died in the war. A mass gave was therefore established over the 800 dead bodies. A cross was constructed over that in order to commemorate the site, which was henceforth consecrated by Bishop of Singapore.
