Temple of 1,000 Lights (Sakya Muni Buddha Gaya) is a temple that has been dedicated to the memory of the birth, growth, and demise of Lord Buddha. On the walls of the temple are painted murals that reflect the different phases of life and growth of the great soul who shouldered the responsibility to show mankind the right path of fulfillment and knowledge. It is known as Temple of 1,000 Lights (Sakya Muni Buddha Gaya) because abundant lights are hung on the walls of the temple and during the evening these lights are made to light up the entire region. It seems to provide light to all the souls who have lost their way amidst the darkness of day-to-day existence, as did Buddha during his lifetime. There is a 15 meter high statue of Lord Buddha place on the entrance which weighs approximately 300 tons. There are also smaller images of Lord Buddha inside the Temple of 1,000 Lights (Sakya Muni Buddha Gaya) with plentiful murals consisting of the life and preaching of Sakya Muni Buddha. On the day of Vesak, devotees from across the globe pour in money for the lord in lieu of an opportunity to place golden leaf over him. This makes the statue of Lord Buddha completely enveloped with gold at the end of the day.
