Raffles Hotel Museum Singapore

The history of the Raffles Hotel dates back to 1887 when it was built and named after the founder of Singapore, Sir Stamford Raffles. The colonial-styled architecture, the tropical garden courtyard and the Victorian style theatre adds to the elegance and charm of the monument.

Founded by four Armenian brothers, Martin, Tigran, Aviet and Arshak Sarkies, the building was originally a 10 room colonial mansion. The expansion of the mansion continued and wings were constantly added to the main building. The guest list of the hotel includes Somerset Maugham, Charlie Chaplin, Rudyard Kipling, Joseph Conrad and many more celebrated personalities from different fields of life.
