Sculpture Square Singapore

Located on 155 Middle Road in Singapore, Sculpture Square is an arts organization, primarily a non-profit, independent institute that was established with an aim to promote 3 dimensional art practices. It is an organization that analyses old art forms and productions as well as initiates new thought processes with regard to the making of art.

The Sculpture Square was established in 1999 to present the different kinds of art especially the 3 dimensional varieties to the public by showcasing the art works of local as well as international artists.

The main exhibition gallery of the Sculpture Square is the Chapel Gallery that was originally the Malay Methodist Church. The church built in 1870 was a meeting place of many young men for religious as well as recreational purposes. During the Second World War, it was converted to a Chinese restaurant called May Blossom Restaurant and by the end of the war it was made into a motor workshop. However in 1995 the erstwhile Chapel Gallery was rediscovered by an architect-sculptor, Sun Yi-Li. Along with Edmund Cheng, Sun Yi-Li converted the church and the adjacent hotel building into an art house.

Today, the Sculpture Square is an important landmark in Singapore that has two exhibition galleries, a classroom with a seating capacity of 15 people, an office, a library, artist-in-resident rooms, an outdoor exhibition area and a restaurant.
