With an aim to be the premier education attraction in Singapore, the building of Singapore Discovery Centre was approved in October 1922. It was originally planned to exhibit the history of the Singapore Armed Forces but later became a venue to display the different aspects of present as well as future technology. The President Ong Teng Cheong inaugurated the discovery center on 23 November 1996. The underlying connection with the military is evident in the exhibits of the Singapore Discovery Centre like the weapons used in the past, the ranks of a National Serviceman and most importantly the shooting gallery. Some of the special attractions of Singapore Discovery Centre are Crossfire Paintball which is equipped with replicas of M-4 Carbine guns, bus tours around the massive 88 hectare area and enjoy the scenery, a computerized shooting alley with 4 shooting scenario, a flat screen theatre which shows 2D and 3D movies and offers a seating capacity of 350 people. Some of the awards won by the Singapore Discovery Centre are the 19th and 20th Tourism Awards, Excellence Service Awards, International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions Award and Association of Singapore Attractions Award.
