Kampong Glam Singapore

Kampong Glam is located on the northern part of the Singapore River. This area is situated near the urban areas named Rochor and Kallang. In the year 1819, Kampong Glam was the home of Malya a local ruler of Singapore. Malya became the master of the land after signing a treaty with East India Company, Temenggong Abdul Rahman and Sultan Hussein Shah of Johor.

Kampong glam is the home of a deep bonding between Malaya and the Muslim Community. The place is the seat of various Muslim activities and religious programs. Sultan Mosque is the main attraction of the place and devotees from different parts of the world come to pay a visit in this holy mosque. The place is the best stop to find various islamic items where the Arab Street and Baghdad Street act as the storehouse of the Muslim restaurants, art galleries, art and crafts, spices and various other souvenirs. A mishap of fire had destroyed most of the shops but the high spirits of the people have recovered from the accident with great speed and efficiency.
