Malay Village Singapore

If you are interested in getting an insight into the unique cultural tradition of the Malays there is no better place for you to visit than the Malay Village in Singapore. You will be able to see in front of your eyes a typical Malay Village or a Kampung as it looked like in the 1950's or 1960's. Their life style at that time period also unfolds before you.

There are a large number of shops in the Malay Village in Singapore, which showcases various items that reveal the richness of Malay Arts and Crafts like batik painting and kite making.

One of the main attractions of Malay Village is the Malay Cultural Museum. Set up in the year 1985, the Malay Cultural Museum is located at 39 Geylang Sarai. There is no entrance fee for entry to this museum. The museum houses an amazing collection of items that throw a great deal of light on the Malay culture. They include household goods, weaving tools, musical instruments, hand stitched dresses and a traditional bed ornamentally decorated with beads.

Along with museum, Malay Village also has a legend fantasy show that is organized for children mainly. The performances of Malaysian and Indonesian dancers in the evening are also quite enjoyable. However the greatest attraction is definitely the Kuda Kepang, which is performed only on Saturday evenings. All in all, a trip to the Malay Village in Singapore will surely be very memorable.
