About Anchovy:

The anchovy is a small green fish with blue reflections due to silver stripes. Its maximum length is 9 inches and is found in scattered areas all over the world oceans. But their population is condensed in temperate waters and rare or absent in very cold or very warm seas.

The festival:

Gijang Anchovy Festival, Busan is celebrated at the port city of Daebyeonhang has the richest harvest of Anchovies in Korea, especially in the months of April and May. The beautiful clear sea decorated with a lighthouse is not only popular during the Anchovy Festival, but is also a popular tourist attraction all year round. Gijang Anchovy Festival, Busan is held by the sea coast. The festival begins with a fisherman’s parade, carrying the nets and other fishing equipments. In Gijang Anchovy Festival, Busan the parading fisherman dresses up in traditional Korean fishing outfit called Hanbok. Hanbok is characterized by simple lines and no pockets with roomy pants bound at the ankles and a short jacket cuffed at the wrists and belted at the waist. Rich sea food dishes consisting of fresh anchovy hoe i.e. raw fish can be enjoyed during the Gijang Anchovy Festival, Busan. Other dishes in offer during the festival consist of pickled anchovy with seaweed, cuttlefish and cutlessfish. The outdoor food market sells different kinds of food such as hoe(raw fish) dishes, soups, and baked foods for moderate prices.

The festival nights are celebrated with a round of good music, singing and dancing adding a new fervor to the evening. Adding much excitement to the evening events is the colorful fireworks up on the sky. In comparison to the other festivals of Busan, Gijang Anchovy Festival, Busan, is celebrated on a smaller scale and in a simplified manner.

Festival Highlights:

The festival offers a chance to watch box office hits sitting in front of Daebyeonhang’s clean ocean waters and its red lighthouse. It can be a good attraction to the movie buffs. The other highlight of the evening can be buying a freshly caught fish and having it served on the spot.
