About the Village
The Songcheon village is situated by the stream coming down from Songcheon Valley on one side and on the other side it is surrounded by the pine trees. It is a small as well as a calm village. The crystal clear water of the valley flows through the pine trees in Songcheon village. The village has been called as Songcheon-ri because of the fact that a dense pine forest was there in the centre of the river and the river used to flow in two directions. The tributay of Sok Stream gave the ultimate name of the village as Songcheon.
About Rice Making
The traditional rice cakes that is exclusive to the village of Songcheon is made out of high quality of rice and the clear water of Songcheon Valley, starting from Sorak Mountain’s Daecheong Summit. The cakes are made by using the hand followed with the traditional method of boiling the rice on firewood fire. The course of rice cake making starts from early in the morning and then striking the dough of rice with a huge wooden hammer. The visitors coming to the village gets the opportunity of experiencing rice cake making and at the same time learning to make the rice cakes also.
