History of Haeundae, Busan
The name Haeundae or "Sea and Clouds" as it is termed in Korean language is attributed to ninth century Silla scholar and poet Choi Chi-won .Enchanted by the exquisite beauty of the beach and its surrounding vicinity , the poet built a pavilion nearby. The historical evidence of his affinity to Haeundae, Busan in a form of Choe's calligraphy engraved on a rock at Haeundae still survives. The massive commercial development in the mid-1990s proliferated deluxe hotels and other tourist attractions around the beach area. So in addition to exploring the serene unmatched splendor of Haeundae tourists can check out magnificent shopping complexes, movie theatres and local restaurants.
Lulled by the sea and the sun Haeundae, Busan for its huge popularity coupled with other tourist facilities, have become one of the host neighbourhoods in the Busan International Film Festival. Haeundae was also the host of the 2005 APEC Conference.
How to get to Haeundae
Haeundae can easily be reached by subway on the Busan Subway Line 2, or by train on the Donghae Nambu railway line. Both Haeundae subway and train stations are adjacent to each other.
