The majestic Mt. Palgongsan is located in the north eastern region of Daegu, 22km east of downtown Daegu and borders Daegu City and 4 other cities, Chilgok-gun, Gunwi-gun, Yeongcheon-si, and Kyeongsan-si in Gyeongsangbukdo Province. Standing as a magnificent backdrop of the city, trails of Mt. Palgongsan, Daegu are often frequented by the citizens like a garden at home. The highest peak of this grand mountain is 1,192m above sea level and occupies a total area of 122.08?. The shape of the mountain resembles that of a great eagle. Birobong Peak is the main peak, which spreads its powerful wings to the East, Eastern ridge, and to the West, Western ridge. The total length of the mountain ridges reach 20km.
Mt. Palgongsan has been regarded as a holy mountain from the ancient times. Dating back to the period of the Silla Kingdom, great Buddhist works have continued with wishes to defend the nation. There are several, more than a millennium year old temples, like the Donghwasa Temple and Pagyesa Temple, enshrouded in the lush valleys of Mt. Palgongsan. Buddhist statues, pagodas, and relief Buddha images are widespread all across the henna streaked mountain.
