“There are many paths to the top of the mountain, but the view is always the same.” Chinese Proverbs Probably that same magnificent view of Mt. Palgongsan from all over the South Korean city of Daegu draws an undaunting appeal to make a close visit to this place beautiful by virtue of its natural set up. Indeed, there you will find many paths to the top of the mountain, but to reach the base of this mountain take City Express Bus No. 105 (orange bus) and get off at the last stop. Besides, there are other buses which can drop you at Mt. Palgongsan. Bus runs every 10min. And it takes 40min to get to the base. You can also walk toward Ayangro Road for 5 min after getting down at Dong (east) Daegu Station. Better take a City Bus No. 401 which runs every 4-5 minutes for Pagyesa Temple via Dongdaegu Station. However, make it sure whether it is going to the base or not. You can also take City Bus No. 131 for Gatbawi. These are all blue/green buses. Moreover, you can flag a taxi from virtually anywhere in the city. Mt. Palgongsan is actually a range of peaks which surrounds the northeast side of the city. It extends east-west for some 30km. Palgongsan's highest peak is Birobong Peak at 1192m. The mountain is just about 22km from the city center. Many of the Daegu Citizens frequent Mt. Palgongsan. This mountain in fact stands 1,192 meters above the sea level and covering an area of 12,208 ?. Various Buddhist relics such as temples, Buddha statues, and Buddha images will be found in the valleys of the mountain. There are several mountaineering tracks on the mountain. Palgongsan boasts the largest stone Buddha in Asia at Donghwasa Temple. You will find this a wonderfully reconstructed temple having more than a few secondary buildings on the site that also bear a look-see.
