Donghwasa Temple was originally known as the Yugasa Temple. In 832, after the reconstruction process was over, Simji renamed it as the Donghwasa Temple.
Constructed in 439 A.D. Donghwasa Temple was at one point of time used as the headquarters of the monk troops who desperately crusaded against foreign invasion. The beautiful stone Pagodas of Geumdangam Hermitage, Donghwasa, Daegu Temple is now a famous tourist attraction in Daegu which is visited by tourists from all across the globe.

The Pagodas of Geumdangam Hermitage, Donghwasa, Daegu Temple adorn the main hall of Geumdangam Hermitage, which is a branch temple of the Donghwasa Temple.
One pagoda is located in the east of the main hall of the Geumdangam Hermitage and another in the west. The eastern pagoda is made from a single stone. The decorative top portion of the stone pagodas comprises of Noban and Bokbal.
It may be mentioned here that the body and roof lost its balance during the execution of the repair works. The western pagoda on the other hand has got a two-tiered base. Both of the two pagodas are the finest works of the late United Silla period in the 9th century. On June 15th, 1942 it was declared as the National Treasure No.248.
