Pagyesa Temple Daegu

Daegu, is one of the modern cities of South Korea, and yet is a treasure house of national treasures, with an aura of the ancient surrounding it so wonderfully that people love to come here, and discover the beauties of the land. Stupas, pagodas, religious halls, and temples, all form the major attractions in the city of Daegu that attracts numerous of tourists from every part of the globe. One of the temples in Daegu that is the Pagyesa Temple, Daegu.

The Pagyesa Temple, Daegu is an auxiliary to the Donghwasa temple, and was established in 804 by Royal Preceptor Simjiwangsa of the Silla Kingdom, during the reign of the Silla king Aejang. It was built on a densely wooded hill in northeast Daegu, then later reconstructed by the Buddhist priest, Gyegwanbeopsa in 1605. In 1695, it was rebuilt all over again by the Buddhist Monk, Hyeon-ungjosa. As a result, most of the structures of the Pagyesa Temple, Daegu are quite new and modern. Yet, it still has a sense of the old and ancient to it, which makes it a wonderful place to visit.

The Pagyesa Temple, Daegu has a very interesting tale to it. Apparently, the King Yeongjo of the Joseon Dynasty was born after 100 days of prayer by the High Buddhist Teacher Yeongwonseonsa, in the Pagyesa Temple, Daegu, at the request of King Sukjong, the prince’s father. The King gave him the additional name of “Hyeoneung”, who told him to enshrine his royal ancestral tablets in the temple, which successfully stopped the contemporary oppression of Confucians on the Buddhist temple.
