Seated Buddha at Donghwasa Temple Daegu

Situated in the south foot of the mountain Palgongsan, Donghwasa is a historic old temple of Silla period. Keukdalhwasang established this famous temple of Daegu, in 493 A.D. of King Soji period, and after that, Simjudaesa repaired it in 832 A.D. of King Heungdeok period. It was known as Donghwasa as flowers were blooming in Paulownia coreana tree even in winter. The statue of Seated Buddha at Donghwasa Temple, Daegu, is carved out on a stonewall placed at the south entrance of the Donghwasa Temple in Mt. Palgongsan. The Seated Buddha at Donghwasa Temple, Daegu gives a unique impression, and the spectators feel that it is flying down from the sky. Plump face, smaller body, decorative pedestal, and mandorla of this statue are the characteristics of the ninth century in the United Silla period. Seated Buddha at Donghwasa Temple, Daegu was designated as National Treasure No. 243 on June 15, 2942.
