Delving into the history of this shrine you will get to know that this shrine (also called Jeongnyeogak) was built in the period of King Yeongjo. This construction was done in the 18th century. The chief purpose behind the construction was to honor twelve ancestors of the Hyeonpung Gwak family. These twelve ancestors of the Hyeonpung Gwak family were awarded from the nation.
Deeds like loyalty, filial respects, chastity, etc are highly respected in this country. And this is one of the age-old traditions of this place. A jeongnyeo was a prize for people who conducted good deeds stated above. Particularly, it was a very exceptional thing for one clan to receive 12 jeongnyeo prizes.
