Daejeon in South Korea is geographically located between 127°33'21"and 127°14'54" in the north latitude. Pulsating in the centre of South Korea, Daejeon is located at a distance of 167.3 km from Seoul, 294 km from Busan, and 169 km from Gwangju. It is conveniently located between Yeongnam province and Honam province. It is major point of traffic divergence of the Gyungbu Expressway into the east and Honam Expressway into the west. After the opening of the transit railway in April, 2004, Daejeon has become the nerve center of national traffic. Among the six major cities of South Korea which include Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Incheon, and Gwangju, daejeon boasts to be the fifth largest. Daejeon population is estimated to be around 1,438,778.

  • Covering an area of 539.83 square kilometers, Daejeon is home to a population of 1,438,778 people.
  • The city comprises of five major divisions of Yuseong-gu, Dong-gu, Seo-gu, Daedeok-gu and Jung-gu. Yuseong-gu is the largest borough of the city. The population of the five major boroughs ranges from 223 to 511. Seo-gu is home to the highest number of inhabitants, while Yuseong-gu is the least inhabited of the Daejeon area.
  • The population of the city has risen from 1,368 to 1,463 from 1999 to 2005 (Unit- Thousands of people). The male population has increased from 688 to 734 (Unit- Thousands of people) over six years. The Female population has recorded a growth from 680 to 729 (Unit- Thousands of people).
  • The population of Daejeon embodies the rich culture of the city. The city boasts of LPGA golfers Se Ri Pak and Jang Jeong as well as the South Korean actor Kwon Sang-woo. The city is also the hometown of former New York Mets left-handed reliever Dae-Sung Koo.
  • The Daejeon Museum of Art, Daejeon Philharmonic Orchestra and the Daejeon World Cup Stadium are major landmarks of the city which bear testimony to the rich aesthetic taste of the population.
