The Wolpyeong Park in Daejeon stretches from the realms of a village named Wolpyeong- dong and extends up till the Gonggulan village of Chongnim-dong. The park came into existence under the notice number 1903 issued by the Ministry of Transportation in the year 1965. The construction work for the Wolpyeong Park was undertaken in the year 1990 and the park has grown in its own right to become the largest Park in the Seo-gu district. Features of Wolpyeong Park in Daejeon • The Park derives its name from an ancient castle which is still present within the park grounds. The castle was built during the Paekjae Dynasty. The ancient mountain Fortress is built in the Temoe style and has a circumference of 400 meters. The castle also finds resemblance to another style named Pogok style which means embracing the valley. • The Wolpyeong Park is very important from the historical point of the Daejeon city. It was at this mountain site that many ancient and priceless porcelain and earthenware were discovered here during excavation work. The Park is designated to be a protective site since it has been announced as a city monument of Daejeon- jikhalsi on 18 th March, 1989. • There is even a small Buddhist temple located within the Wolpyeong Park. Those who visiting the park can stop at the temple for a peaceful rest. • Owing to the fact that a major portion of the Park is private property, full scale development is not possible. However certain sports facilities had been provided for those who take the mountain trail for walking. • The beauty of the Wolpyeong Park in Daejeon cannot be conveyed in words. The shady trees and the sight of the colorful flowers rejuvenate your tired self. The flow of the natural springs creates a noise which is sheer music to the ears.
