Features of Chungnam in Daejeon:

  • Gyeryongsan National Park is a major attraction of the area. It was recognized as a National park on Dec. 31, 1968. The majestic Gyeryongsan Mountain stretches across Daejeon, Gongju and Nonsan. It is regarded as the most beautiful range in Chungnam.
  • Gyeryongsan Mountain is so called because of its ridgeline being similar to a dragon bearing a crown of a chicken. The scenic surroundings of Gyeryongsan Mountain are magnificent.
  • It is associated with shamanism of Korea, and many shamanists throng this mountain for self-improvement.
  • Gyeryongsan mountain comprises of the main peak, Cheonhwangbong, Sambulbong, Yeoncheonbong, Gwangeumbong and dozens of peaks, fantastic rocks and stones, Yongmun Fallsl on the west, Eunseon Falls on the east and Amyongchu and Sutyongchu on the south.
  • Gongju National Museum began its work as Gongju Historic Sites Preservation Association was established in 1935 and was transformed to Gongju Historic Sites Promotion Association in 1940. The Museum exhibit relics of Gongju. In the year 1946, it was recognized as the Gongju branch of the National Museum. 1971 saw the unearthing of several relics and their subsequent exhibition.
  • Munyeong wangneung (tomb of King Munyeong) was built when drainage work started to obstruct water penetration into the Songsanri old tombs No. 5 and 6. Unearthing of excavations revealed that the tomb of King Muryong resembled a small hill.
  • Independence hall have traditional and contemporary Korean historical documents and relics on display.
The other major attractions of the area are Baengmagang (River) and Daedunsan (Mountain).
