The Daejeon Philharmonic Choir in South Korea aspires to revolutionize the history of world music by optimum planning and harmonizing. The Daejeon Philharmonic Choir sings with the motto of - "singing with heart and expressing the mind with love".
The Daejeon Philharmonic Choir was set up in 1981 and from that time it has been playing the principal role for the development of the music culture of Daejeon.
The Daejeon Philharmonic Choir has also opened a forum for global cultural exchange through the 93 Expo. The other events like the 96 World Choir Performance, 98 Korean Choir Grand Contest, 99 Korea-Japan Choir Performance and the Korean Choir Grand Contest of 2001 and other youth concerts have also been hosted by the Daejeon Philharmonic Choir. Every year around fifty varied concerts take place every year.
Over the years the Daejeon Philharmonic Choir has arranged sixty-eight regular concerts, special edition concerts and altogether five hundred concerts have been organized till date.
It has also aided the expansion of its activities by arranging joint concerts with opera choirs and other choirs of the city.
Besides, expanding the scope of its activities, the Daejeon Philharmonic Choir has also innovated and experimented with different musical forms and creating music by illustrious Korean and other feted composers of the 20th Century.
Amazingly the Daejeon Philharmonic Choir set a record of ‘house full' audiences during the regular concerts when the conductor Byung-jik Lee was appointed.
Gi-young Ahn came up with the first song composition of Korea in Gi-young Ahn Discovery Concert. In this con cert he played the joint folkloric music and also the music drama named ‘Silk Road' which was a Korean-Chinese-Japanese joint creation.
The current director of Daejeon Philharmonic Choir is the illustrious composer Byoungjik Lee who is trying to experiment with new trends of world choir music and aims at popularizing the Korean choir throughout the world. Besides being a full time composer Lee is also an art director.
