Mt Dodeokbong in Daejeon

Daejeon is primarily a mountainous city but that has not been able to mar the charm of the city. The Mount Dodeokbong is one of the peaks of Gyeryongsan which is located in the Gyeryongsan National Park. The Gyeryongsan National Park is spread over a large area and comprises of the Daejeon, Nonsan and Kwangju districts. Surrounded by a lush green forest, the place was transformed into a National Park in the year 1968.

The site of the Mt. Dodeokbong can be easily reached as the place enjoys good road connectivity. Bus numbers 160, 806 and 814 are available to reach Mt . Dodeokbong and the Gyeryongsan National Park.

Features of Mt. Dodeokbong in Daejeon

•  As told earlier, the Mount Dodeokbong is a part of the Gyeryongsan mountain range. The main mountain is in the shape of a dragon wearing a chicken's crest on its head.

•  The Mountain has unique geographical features with the deepest of valleys and a befitting rugged topography. The Sutonggol Valley and the Dodeok valley lie to the south and north of the Mt. Dodeokbong respectively. The Dodeok valley was also known as the Bandits Valley as the place was frequented by bandits in the ancient days. Every valley has exquisite looking falls and ponds.

•  The valley is home to a large number of plants like maple which during the fall season turns a beautiful crimson red and the cherry blossoms and azaleas in their full bloom conjures up another spectacular image.

•  The Mountain Dodeokbong is the source of many lovely waterfalls which are the prime source of water for the animals present in the National park. Some of the waterfalls are Yougmun waterfall, Sutyongchu waterfalls.

•  The Mountain site has many interesting pieces of rock sculptures and walking trails. The wilderness and the varied plant life will simply enthrall you.
