Speed Skating in South Korea

Speed skating or speed skating in South Korea is a competitive form of ice-skating that is very popular in the country. In this form of skating, the competitors race each other in traveling a certain distance on skates.

The various types of speed skating in South Korea are:
  -   Long short track speed skating
  -   Inline speed skating (or inline racing)
  -   Marathon speed skating
  -   Quad speed skating

In the Olympic Games, long track speed skating is usually referred to as just speed skating, while short track speed skating is known as short track. The ISU, governing body of both ice sports, refers to long track as   -  speed skating  -   and short track as   -  short track speed skating  -  . South Korea speed skating champions provide serious competition to the speed skaters of other countries who come to participate in various international competitions and sports meets including Olympics.

Apart from individuals, competing with each other is speed skating, team races are also held; in long track speed skating, the only team race at the highest level of competition is the team pursuit, though athletics-style relay races are held at children's competitions. Though relay races are held in short track and inline competitions as well, but there exchanges may take place at any time during the race, though exchanges may be banned during the last couple of laps.

Rules for disqualification in Speed Skating:

  -   Unfairly hindering the opponent
  -   Any infringement on the pair mate
  -   No physical contact with other skater in mass start races
  -   No obtrusion of other skaters path by changing lanes, though skaters are permitted to change from the inner to the outer lane out of the final curve if they are not able to hold the inner curve, as long as they are not interfering with the other skater.
