Airports and infrastructure constitute the backbone of air travel in any country. South Korea has it fair share of excellent airports and aerodromes. A number of South Korea airports allow domestic air traffic, some international flight services and yet others allow both. Recent reports show that South Korea houses about 107 airports. Among these, only 69 boast of paved runways. Of these 69, 3 runways are more than 3047 m long, 21 are between 2,438 & 3,047 m, 14 are between 1,524 & 2,437 m, 11 are between 914 to 1,523 m and 20 are under 914 m long. The country allows international flights to connect to 8 of its airports located at Incheon (Seoul), Cheongju, Daegu, Gimhae (Busan), Gimpo, Gwangju, Jeju and Yangyang. The Incheon International Airport is located near Seoul is lauded by most to be the best maintained airport in the world. Much thought and skill has gone into designing the airport. Visitors and tourists pause to appreciate the convenience and facilities provided by this airport. Gimhae (Busan) and Jeju International Airports also handle a large volume of international air traffic especially from China and Japan. Gimpo Airport is the hub of domestic air travel. Korean Air, Asiana, United Airlines, Northwest Airlines, Hansung Airlines and Jeju Air are some of the airline operators that offer flights from the various South Korea airports. The airports of South Korea are equipped with the latest technology aiding air navigation. Incheon and Gimhae airports are not located in Seoul and Busan proper but in the outskirts of the city. Incheon International Airport may be reached by a 45 minute drive from the heart of Seoul City. These airports of South Korea provide the much needed air transport links within the country and with the launch of low cost flights the number of citizens and tourists using them is ever increasing.
