Yeongjong Island Incheon

Yeongjong Island, Incheon is located 2.5 km northwest of Wolmido Island, Incheon.  Because of the presence of a number of swallows on the island, it used be called Jayeondo Island as well. The name was changed to Yeongjong-do in 1653 which means "long extended wooden floor" in Chinese characters. But now the island is popularly known as Yeongjong Island, Incheon.

It is connected to the mainland by the Yeongjong Bridge and ahs to some extent lost the isolated tranquility of an island. The building of the Incheon International Airport has facilitated the gateway of many tourists to the Yeongjong Island, Incheon.The center of the Yeongjong Island, Incheon is marked by Mt. Bakeunsan and there are highways circling around it. In this mountain stands the Yonggungsa temple and the mythology runs that the Regent has lived here for 10 years. The mountain is also famous for its mineral mountain water spring. 

In frontyard of Yonggungsa temple, there is a zelkova tree which is 1,300 years old. The Incheon International Airport and its surrounding area of the Yeongjong Island, Incheon can be seen from the top of this mountain.

The area at Yeongjong Island, Incheon has Yeongjong Sky Park and Mt.Baekunsan Gliding Range where you can learn basic flight skills with light planes.

The bathhouse near the seashore of the Yeongjong Island, Incheon uses hot spring water and can accommodate up to 3,000 people. Thus, it is a great place to relax after a hard day of traveling.

Yeongjong Bridge in Yeongjong Island, Incheon is a delightful sight. It is characterized by the stunning view of seashores and beaches of the island.

All things apart, the first thing that welcomes visitors at Yeongjong Island, Incheon is the fish market. Flatfish, crabs, sea cucumbers, frog flounder, sea squirts and other sea food form the base of the fish market. The Yeongjong wharf boasts of fresh fish everyday at a nominal price to its customers.

Visitors visit Yeongjong Island, Incheon because of the scenic beaches, hot springs and fish markets which make this an interesting way to spend an escape from the regular humdrum city life of the rest of South Korea.
