A rich history lies behind the construction of this popular historic palace. King Cheoljong was the 25th ruler of the Joseon period. He used to live here before his ascension to the throne. Jeong Gi-se was the chief of the Ganghwa County in which the palace was located. He enlarged the original residence in the fourth year of the reign of the King and named it Yongheung-gung which means the Palace of Rising Dragon. Yi Jae-sun who was a member of the royal family rebuilt the residence in the early 20th century. The Yongheung Palace, Incheon has since been designated as a Tangible Cultural Property. The Yongheung Palace, Incheon is actually a simple building with servants' rooms on both sides of the main gate. It was built in the tradition of the Yeongyeong-dang and Nakseon-jae houses in Seoul's Changdoek Palace. The tattered building of the palace was rebuilt in 1974.
