The Moseulpo Yellowtail Festival, Jeju had originated in Moseulpo, an Island in the southern part of Jeju. Moseulpo yields the largest number of yellowtails in the whole of Korea. The yellowtails Fished by the clear coastline of Marado, is a very profit yielding product. Hence to uphold and support this bounty of yellowtails, the Moseulpo Yellowtail Festival in Jeju was initiated by Nam Jeju-gun in the year of 2001. It is very interesting to see how nicely the people of Jeju blend commerce and culture in the Moseulpo Yellowtail Festival. More over it also reflects the fact that the festivals of Jeju are an integral part of the people’s lives. It covers every aspect of living in the isle and makes everything a celebration. Every year during the month of November this Jeju Festival is launched with a colorful parade called ‘gillori’. Then they have the ‘pungeoje’, where they say prayers for a plentiful fishing season. In the inaugural ceremony you can also see a fascinating procession of boats. - This Jeju festival also features cheap markets selling freshly caught Yellowtails.
- Visiting the nearby Tourist Attraction is also a part of the festivity. A tour is conducted to significant places like Mt. Sanbangsan, Dansan, or Songaksan.
- Exhibitions are also a major part of the festival and some of the presentations include Photo Exhibition, Calligraphy Exhibition and Onggi Exhibition.Thus the Moseulpo Yellowtail Festival of Jeju is filled with lots of fun frolic and energetic involvement, and hence would make a really wonderful experience.
