Chejudo or Jeju Island is the largest island of South Korea and its only self governing province. This beautiful island off the coast of South Korea is a place full of fantasy and mystery and Koreans regard it as their most beautiful island. This island is the nation's favorite honeymoon destination and it attracts foreign travelers in hordes. Jeju attracts thousands of tourists because of its volcanic landscape, picture perfect sub-tropical scenery, sandy beaches, waterfalls and long, meandering hiking trails. Because of its many tourist attractions, volcanic landscape and its numerous beaches Jeju has been given the nickname of "Little Hawaii" and it is said to be ranked among the world's top 10 tourist attractions. One of the many sightseeing destinations in Jeju one that you absolutely cannot afford to miss is the Seongsan Ilchubong or the Sunrise Peak which is commonly believed to be the best place in Korea to watch the sunrise. The Seongsan Ilchubong located near the eastern town of Songsan-ri, is a volcanic crater with cliffs that rise up vertically from the shore. The crater is about 600m in diameter and 90m high. 99 sharp rocks surround the crater making it resemble an enormous crown. The southeast and north sides of the crater are cliffs while the northwest side is a hill with grassy slope faces the Seongsan Village. Seongsan Ilchubong ridge is also a great hiking and horse riding trail. The sunrise from the crater is supposed to be one of the best sights ever. As it is the eastern most tip of Jeju Island it is the first place in the island to greet the dawn and has thus earned its poetic name of Sunrise Peak. Another sight that you should not miss is the Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak between the bright yellow colored rapeseed flowers which are in full bloom during spring. Even if the weather spoilsport and blocks your view of the sunrise the wonderful scenery around the crater is still definitely worth the effort of climbing the peak.
