Suwol bong Peak in Jeju

South Korea - Daegu - Incheon - Jeju - Seoul - Daejeon
Chejudo or Jeju Island off the coast of South Korea is an island full of romance and enigma and Koreans regard is as their most beautiful island. It comes as no surprise then that Jeju is the nation's favorite honeymoon destination and it gets a steady flow of foreign travelers all the year round. Jeju attracts thousands of tourists because of its volcanic landscape, picture perfect sub-tropical scenery, sandy beaches, waterfalls and long, meandering hiking trails.

Because of its many sightseeing destinations, volcanic landscape and its numerous beaches Jeju has been given the nickname of "Little Hawaii" and it is said to be ranked among the world's top 10 tourist attractions.

Jeju Island is also called island of sunrises and sunsets because of its many mountain peaks from which watching a sunset and sunrise can be one of the most delightful activities.

Among these the many mountains and mountain peaks is the Suwol-bong Peak, a rather small mountain top which is famous as a sunset viewing destination. The Suwolbong Peak stands at the edge of the Gosan-ri plain, the largest plain of Jeju that stretches from the Mt. Hallasan to the western coastline, where it ends at Suwolbong Peak. The Suwolbong Peak has an altitude of 73m. It projects out into the sea and ends in an almost vertical drop off. A lot of mineral springs flow out of this cliff. The cliff is made up of layers of fossilized rocks. On the top of the Suwolbong Peak is the hexagonal pavilion Suwoljeong, from where one can look down on all sides. The expanse of the West Sea can be seen from this pavilion. To the north, off the coast, is the Chagwido also known as Jukdo Island, where only the top peak area is covered in greenery and the rest of the island is made up of dark hyeonmuam rocks and cliffs. Chagwido is famous as a fishing place, and in January, March, June, and December, people come here to fish. At dusk the entire seashore turns a vivid red and when you watch this breathtaking sunset from this vantage point you will know why this place is such a famed sunset viewing site.
