The Arko Art Gallery which was previously known as Marronnier Art Gallery is
situated within the Marronnier Park in Daehakno in Southern Seoul. The Arko
Art Gallery was established by the Korean Culture Promotion Department in the
year 1979 with the objective of enriching and flourishing Korean Arts. Before
the time of constitution of the Arko Art Gallery there were no permanent
art galleries or exhibition spaces where the budding artists could exhibit their
art. Thus with the establishment of this art gallery of Seoul, many artists
saw a ray of hope and since then it became a venue of art where painters and
artists could display their work of art.
Apart from these with low exhibit fees and comparatively important self-planned
exhibit openings, the Arko Art Gallery has been a blessing to a struggling or
aspiring artist. Over the years, the Arko Art Gallery has contributed greatly
to the development and flourishing of Korean arts.
Usually two types of exhibition take place in the Arko Art Gallery- the General
Exhibition and the Planning Exhibition. The special exhibitions or the planning
exhibitions are held at the small gallery on the first floor.
The displayed works are admitted through strict screening, so you must go and
visit them. You don't require paying any admission fees for that. The works
of art will surely satisfy an art connoisseur or an art buff. However try to
avoid visiting this place during the month of August as the site undergoes repair
work.
Apart from visiting the paintings and art objects, the Arko Art Gallery is
also a great place for hanging out! The site offers some facilities like a family
café in the second floor, a cyber café with six computers, refreshments
and so on. The Arko Art Gallery is a popular tourist destination in Seoul.
