Transportation in Seoul

South Korea - Daegu - Incheon - Jeju - Seoul - Daejeon
Being the capital of South Korea, Seoul has a well distributed transportation system in place. The transportation system consists of bus, subway, taxi and of course flights.

Served by two international airports namely Gimpo and Incheon, Seoul receives a lot of visitors each day. Though Gimpo used to handle all inbound and outbound flights to Seoul, the airport now handles only the domestic flights. Opened in 2001, Incheon International Airport is considered as the second best in Asia. This airport is now served by major airliners like Aeroflot, Air Canada, Air China, Air France, Air India, Cathay Pacific and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.

Taxi service is Seoul is an important transportation medium. There are three types of taxi service operating in Seoul; namely General Taxis, Best Deluxe Taxi and Call taxi. The first type is colored in gray and red light at the front indicates that the taxi is vacant. It is the cheapest taxi. Deluxe Taxi, on the other hand, has a black body and a yellow cap. This kind of taxis is more comfortable and of course costs more than the General ones. Call Taxi is available just by a phone call. So no matter wherever in Seoul you are, it is just a phone call away from you.

Local buses in Seoul are a cheap medium to get in and around the city. The ride is uncomfortable as the buses get very crowded during office hours. An Express Bus, on the other hand, has better seating facility. Though cost a bit more, the buses run much faster compared to local buses. The best way to reach Incheon International Airport is by an Airport Bus. Fitted with air-conditioning and TV, an Airport bus covers the distance between Seoul city and Incheon Airport in around one and a half hours.

Possibly the best way to avoid getting stuck in Traffic jam for a long time, is to use Seoul Subway System. The trains run both above ground as well as under ground. The trains run reasonably fast and a great alternative to journey by costly Express Bus. The stations are well marked with English and Korean signs and public address system is in place. The stations are spotlessly clean.
