Seoul City Council

The city of Seoul is considered as one of the most developed cities in the world. The city has the highest density of population in the world and also home to around 11 million people. It is the centre of business, culture and finance of South Korea and is also an important international destination as many corporations have selected Seoul as their headquarters. For all these Seoul has gained a lot of importance and the maintenance of the city has become an issue of utmost importance. The city is taken care by the Seoul City Council which is an autonomous body having the authority to exercise its power in enacting, revising and abolishing municipal ordinances. The Seoul City Council also has the authority of autonomous fiscal power in deciding the budget bills and verifying the appropriate execution of the budget. Besides the financial and legislative duties the Seoul city council takes care of the administrative affairs of the city as well. it has the responsibility of accepting the petitions of the citizens and carry out the necessary duties specified under the provisions and are related to the well being of the city and its citizens.

Apart from all these activities the Seoul city council also deals with other matters of the city as well. Some of them are:

  -   Imposition and collection of rental fees, commission, charges, local taxes or subscription fees not prescribed by law.
  -   Establishment and operation of funds.
  -   Acquisition and disposition of important assets.
  -   Installation, management and disposition of public facilities.
  -   Abandonment of compulsory charges or rights outside the budget that are not included in the provisions of laws and ordinances.
  -   Other matters falling under the jurisdiction of the City Council by law.

The beautification of Seoul has made it a truly international tourism hub and the Seoul city council has played a major role in establishing the fact.
