Myeongdong Cathedral

The Myeongdong Cathedral, Seoul, the first parish in Korea, is the Cathedral Church of the Archdiocese of Seoul, and is a symbol of the Korean Church. Constructed since 1892, and finally completed in May 1898, the Myeongdong Cathedral, Seoul is a beautiful gothic that attracts tourists from all over the world.
The Myeongdong Cathedral, Seoul is a grand, magnificent building, and is the first brick-laid Gothic building ever built in Korea. The church building was built with bricks, but the color and shapes of each structure is different. Twenty types of bricks in two colors, red and gray were used in the construction of this unique structure of the Myeongdong Cathedral, Seoul. Shaped like a cross, with three hallways, the main building of the Myeongdong Cathedral, Seoul is 23m high with the steeple rising up to 45m. There is also an acute tower, which is 45 meters, and stands out among the other structures.
At the entrance of the Myeongdong Cathedral, Seoul stands an exquisite statue of Jesus, that invites one o go in and see the inside of the church. Inside, one gets to view the grand inner pillars, the impressive stained glass windows and the luxurious altar. One can see the beautiful choir seats and the pipe organ on the 2nd floor. The basement floor of the Myeongdong Cathedral, Seoul holds a small sanctuary, and there is also a graveyard that contains the remains of martyrs.
The Service Schedule at the Myeongdong Cathedral, Seoul is as follows:
- Hours: 9 a.m.-9 p.m. (except the Cathedral)
- Weekdays: 6:30 a.m., 10:00 a.m. (mass), 6p.m., 7p.m. (No masses on Mondays 7p.m.)
- Weekend: 7 a.m., 9 a.m., 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 12 p.m., 4 p.m., 5 p.m., 6 p.m., 7 p.m.(mass for the youth), 9 p.m. - For the young- 10:30 a.m.(Elementary students), 12 p.m.(Middle/High School students)
- Special Service (Saturdays): 6 p.m., 7p.m.
- The parish office is closed on Monday.
