Features of Cultural Villages in South Korea:
The fascinating Andong Folk village attracts both tourists and locals in droves.
The Andong Folk village was a center of power for the Yangban (aristocrat) class.
The Andong Dam was constructed in 1976. Owing to the construction of the dam
the, the maintenance of the cultural relics came under serious threat. Thus
these were moved to the Andong Folk Village and Folk Museum. Situated on the
southern foot of Samsanbong Peak on Mt. Jirisan, Cheonghakdong Village in South
Korea maintains the tradition and culture of Korea. It did not play a role in
the tumultuous map of Korea.
However, this village is the holy edifice of worshipping Hwanin, Hwanwung, Dangun and is also home to a monastery known as Samseong-gung. Situated on the banks of the Hwachon Stream and nesting between the Buyongdae Cliff and Mt. Namsan lies, the Andong Hahoe Village is in the shape of a lotus flower. The folk village was founded by the Yu-clan of Pungsan during the 16th century, in the time of the Joseon dynasty. It has existed as a one-clan community since then. The cultural remains have been maintained in these villages which would have otherwise been destroyed with the growing forces of modernity.
