Cultural villages in South Korea are major attractions amongst tourists and locals alike. These cultural villages were built to preserve the cultural assets of the country. The major cultural villages in South Korea are Andong Folk Village, Andong Hahoe Village, Cheonghakdong Village, Icheon Ceramics Village, Jeonju Hanok Village, Korean Folk Village, Naganeupseong Folk Village, Namsangol Hanok Village, Oeam-ri Folk Village and Seongeup Folk Village.

Features of Cultural Villages in South Korea:

The fascinating Andong Folk village attracts both tourists and locals in droves. The Andong Folk village was a center of power for the Yangban (aristocrat) class.
The Andong Dam was constructed in 1976. Owing to the construction of the dam the, the maintenance of the cultural relics came under serious threat. Thus these were moved to the Andong Folk Village and Folk Museum. Situated on the southern foot of Samsanbong Peak on Mt. Jirisan, Cheonghakdong Village in South Korea maintains the tradition and culture of Korea. It did not play a role in the tumultuous map of Korea.

However, this village is the holy edifice of worshipping Hwanin, Hwanwung, Dangun and is also home to a monastery known as Samseong-gung. Situated on the banks of the Hwachon Stream and nesting between the Buyongdae Cliff and Mt. Namsan lies, the Andong Hahoe Village is in the shape of a lotus flower. The folk village was founded by the Yu-clan of Pungsan during the 16th century, in the time of the Joseon dynasty. It has existed as a one-clan community since then. The cultural remains have been maintained in these villages which would have otherwise been destroyed with the growing forces of modernity.
