- Hwahongmun gate is a "beautiful rainbow-colored gate." Located
below Banghwasuryujeong, this north flood gate is a major attraction of the
Hwaseong Fortress.
- It was built over a stream which runs through the Hwaseong Fortress by
expanding Suwoncheon, and a bridge with seven holes was built.
- A multi-story building was built above this bridge.
- Hwahongmun Gate played a significant role as a bridge linking villages
from all round the stream.
- A bower on the stream was a resting place for the people and equipped
with cannons to guard the fortress.
How to reach Hwahongmun Gate in South Korea:
The place can easily be reached from Suwon station (Seoul Subway Line 1). You have to board a city bus and get off at Jongno 4-geori (intersection). It is a five minutes walk from this place. The fortress can be accessed from Suseo subway station,Chamsil subway station, Seokchon subway station, Garak market, paldal-mun, Jangan-mun, Hanil town, Pajang-dong, Yangjae subway station and Kangnam subway station.
