Features of Pungnammun Gate in South Korea

  -   The site of the Pungnammun Gate is related with an interesting event in history. It is believed to be the place which saw Korea's first martyr- Yun Ji Chung. Along with him, the others who faced execution are kwon Sang yon and the leaders of the Jeonju Local church.

  -   The Pungnammun Gate was constructed during the rule of the Joseon Dynasty and is assigned the repute of being the National Treasure no. 308.

  -   Originally the city had four gates but what still remains standing is the Pungnammun Gate. The Gate is situated in the southern part of the city.

  -   A portion of the Pungnammun Gate was destroyed during the invasion of the foreign forces during the years 1592 to 1598. The Gate was again reconstructed in the year 1978.

  -   The Pungnammun Gate has a round design. The round features make the protection of the gate easier and also adds to the grandeur of this beautiful historical structure.
