Features of Gyeongpodae in South Korea
Gyeongpodae in South Korea is situated approximately 6 kilometers north-east of downtown Gangneung city, Gyeongpoho Lake meets the sea. The famous pavilion Gyeongpodae is located on a hill west of the lake. The features of the Gyeongpodae in South Korea include:
- The pavilion was originally set up on the site of Worinsa Temple in 1326 during the Goryeo Dynasty.
- In 1508 during the Joseon Dynasty, it was relocated to its present site.
- It has since been reconstructed and repaired many times, most recently in 1934, 1947 and 1962.
- The pavilion commands a panoramic view of the mountains, the lake, the sea and the pine grove by the beach, for which it has long been cherished.
- The clear lake often visited by swans, the time-honored forest of pine trees and the sunrise on the East Sea combine for a beautiful scene.
- The calligraphy of two of the plaques bearing the name of the pavilion was done by Yu Hanji and Yi Ikhoe. Another one is attributed to Ju Jibeon but it is believed to have been partly rewritten later by someone else.
