Barcelona boasts of rich cultural and historical legacy; the city has been able to preserve its Gothic center almost intact. The city is replete with several landmarks and monuments, which bear testimony to the cultural and historical heritage of the city. One of the best ways to explore the culture and history of the city is by touring the numerous museums of the city. Barcelona Museums are numerous and they focus on different aspects of the city. Some of the popular museums of Barcelona are Picasso Museum, City History Museum and National Art Museum of Catalonia.

Picasso Museum is dedicated to the iconic painter and while touring the museum you can see some celebrated oil paintings and drawings from Picasso's Barcelona period and also some spectacular paintings from later phases of his career. One of the biggest highlights of the museum is that the museum focuses on Picasso's relationship with the city of Barcelona. Picasso shared a close relationship with the city and the city influenced his adolescence, youth and his work; in fact the impact of the city on his life continued till his death. The museum also nestles 42 pieces of ceramic that include vases, dishes and plates.

City History Museum boasts of countless exhibits that highlight the history, tradition and culture of the city. The museum comprises of four venues including the Monumental Ensemble of the Plaça del Rei, the Museum-Monastery of Pedralbes, the Verdaguer Museum-House, and the Centre for Interpretation in Parc Güell. The City History Museum also features exhibits comprising of archeological excavations that highlight the genesis of Barcelona.

Located in Palau National, National Art Museum of Catalonia is primarily dedicated to Catalan visual art. The official inauguration of the museum with all its collection occurred in 2004 in presence of the King and Queen of Spain. There are numerous sections in the National Art Museum of Catalonia and these sections focus on different aspect of art. The major sections of the museum are sections dedicated to Romanesque art, Gothic art, Renaissance and Baroque art, Modern art and the museum also boasts of a collection known as the Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection.
