Sports in Barcelona

Barcelona was catapulted to the top of the sporting scenario by the Olympics which it had hosted way back in 1992. The international competition of sports has made sure that the city of Barcelona always stays in the sporting limelight. Olympics have driven the penetration of sports in the city and parks and grounds have been built in every nook and corner of the city to ignite the sporting spirits of the people. Things have come to such a scenario that today at least one fourth of the population of the city is engaged in some sporting activity or the other.

The enormous Olympic buildings which have been built on the South western part of the town have also helped in spreading the sporting activities of the people.
The sporting stars of the city have also played their part in spreading the popularity of sports, soccer star Ronaldinho playing for FC Barcelona has fanatical fan following not only in Barcelona but also in other parts of the world.

Tennis superstar Arantxa Sanchez Vicario has also played her role in spreading the popularity of tennis in the city and when it comes to Basketball,NBA basketball player Pau Gasol has shown the way. Several soccer fields have come up in different parts of the city which have loads of soccer playing enthusiast trying their foot at the most universal game. The warm climate also provides an excellent opportunity to play the game of golf as there are quite a few good golf courses in and around the city.

Other than these there are quite a few good parks in the city of Barcelona which provide you quite a few opportunities to go for cycling, hiking or even simple walking. In fact with the cool blue waters of the Mediterranean ocean tourists can indulge in water sports to get their adrenaline pumped up.
