Olympic Stadium can accommodate over 55,000 spectators and apart from sports events it can be used for various purposes like musical performances and other popular events. The Olympic Stadium was built over an old stadium, with much of the earlier designs being retained. The façade designed by the architect Pere Domènech i Roure that had stood as an emblem of the stadium still imparts glory to the new Olympic Stadium

The Old Olympic Stadium was constructed in 1927 in order to inaugurate Barcelona World’s Fair in 1929 and also Olympics in 1936. The process of reconstruction of the Stadium for 1992 Olympics was initiated in 1986. The New Olympic Stadium was born out of blend of designs submitted to the international contest that was held for the occasion. The architects whose designs were accepted were Vittorio Gregotti and a team comprised by Federico Correa, Alfonso Milà, Carles Buixadé and Joan Margarit.

The Football field of the Olympic Stadium is now utilized by RCD Espanyol, one of the popular football clubs n Spain and a regular in Spanish First Division matches.

Olympic Stadium, Barcelona is located on the Montjuic Mountain. The stadium has a fresh look about it though no event of any noteworthy consequence has occurred there for a long after from few football matches.

Olympic Stadium, Barcelona also houses a Museum called Galeria Olímpica, which contains artifacts belonging to the 1992 Olympics.

Olympic Stadium is open to the public daily from 10 am to 6 pm which is extended to 8pm from May to September.
