Costa Brava

Spain - Barcelona - Seville - Valencia - Madrid
A costal region of northeastern Catalonia; Costa Brava is located in the Girona province. Combined of two words; Costa in Spanish and Catalan stands for ‘coast’ whereas Brava means ‘brave’. Therefore the region is regarded as a brave coast. The name however is not unjustified as the region boasts of miles of pristine sea beaches and a long coastline.

Costa Brava sits on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. Due to the Mediterranean climate; the region enjoys warm sunshine and the temperature even during summer hovers around a pleasant 25 degrees centigrade. The cool waters of the sea further add to the attraction of this region. Due to such natural advantages; the Franco government of Spain in 1950s identified Costa Brava as a potential tourist destination near Barcelona. In their bid to promote tourism in this part of Spain; large number of hotels and seaside resorts like Blanes, Tossa de Mar, LIoret de Mar and I’Estartit were built at this sea side town. As a welcome consequence, tourists from all parts of Spain and around the globe started coming to this beautiful coastal region.

A major portion of Costa Brava coastline has now become popular tourist destinations. With mile long beaches full of golden sands, warm sunshine and cool Mediterranean Sea water; tourists find the attraction of this coastal sea resort irresistible. However if you want something more than the usual; head for little explored places in this coastal region. The smaller towns like Cadaqués offer a welcome break from the swarming crowd. Attracted by the serenity and picturesque location of this small town; noted Spanish painters like Salvador Dalí and Pablo Picasso came here. There is however no dearth of accommodation places in this town. Luxurious resorts have opened up to cater to the travelers who seek for a different type of lodging experience.
