Tarragona

Spain - Barcelona - Seville - Valencia - Madrid
Located on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea in the northeast of Spain, Tarragona is a province that is considered to be the most southern of all the Catalan provinces. On the basis of geographical and chronological aspects, this province is divided into two sections, namely: the coastal area and the inland area. The 212 kilometer coastal area is stretched from Cunit to the river de La Senia. The coastal area is dotted by a number of fine sandy beaches and calm blue waters; thus making this area a favorite holiday destination for the tourists. The inland area, however, is beautifully decorated with picturesque scenery and plenty of sunshine. The concentration of carob trees, vineyards, hazel, almond and olive trees in the inland area give this area its lush green beauty. So if you want to enjoy a day full of inactivity; then head for the pristine beaches and watch calm blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea being nurtured by gentle winds.

The summer time temperature in the Tarragona province hovers between 23 and 25 degrees centigrade. The constant sea breeze however maintains a pleasant weather throughout the day. The evening is most pleasurable as the intensity of the winds picks up. Rainfall is very less in this area and you can be assured of a bright sunny day. With mild winter, a characteristic of the Mediterranean climate, the temperature even on the coldest day remains at around 10 degree centigrade.

Because of the proximity of the sea, the local cuisine of Tarragona consists mainly of fish. The local favorite dish in this province is “el romesco” sauce. With ingredients like olive oil, locally grown pepper and other secret ingredients that have been passed down from one generation to the next, the sauce is delicious. Other popular dishes include: fish soup, "el rossejat", "la musola", tunny fish, "los suquets" (spiced with saffron and paprika) and octopus with potatoes and garlic.
