Grec Arts Festival

Spain - Barcelona - Seville - Valencia - Madrid
The history of Barcelona dates back to the Roman times. According to first historical records, this city on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea was under the command of the Holy Roman Empire. Since this city is a coastal one so the Romans built an excellent harbor. Most of the maritime trades were then carried out from the port. As time passed by, the city grew in size and prosperity. The traders became more and more wealthy and powerful at the same time. With private armies protecting their interests; each of the trader’s became like an individual king. Their power was ultimately curbed by King Philip V of Spain when the Spanish army defeated the combined forces of these traders. The real prosperity of this town came with Industrial revolution setting in Europe. With newer industries setting up everywhere in Barcelona; people from all parts of Spain and even from foreign locations started coming in this city. The mix of so many diverse groups, religions and cultures rendered Barcelona a cosmopolitan character. The shaping of Barcelona culture has to a large extent been dependent on music, theatre and dance festivals. Among a lot of festivals, Grec Arts Festival has secured a distinct position for itself.

The summer and spring time are that time of the year when Barcelona buzzes with a lot of festivals. With daylight staying longer and cool summer breeze blowing over the Mediterranean Sea, the afternoons turn this city into a carnival venue. Dubbed as the mother of all Barcelona festivals; the Grec Arts Festival is held every year between June and August. This festival sees dance troupes and actors coming from all over the world to display their talents. Staged in open air theatres, the fun time just gets better. The spirit of this three month long festival keeps on lingering even after it gets over.
