Marato De L'espectacle

Spain - Barcelona - Seville - Valencia - Madrid
Located on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, Barcelona is the second largest city in Spain. First settled by the Romans; the history of this city goes back to over two millennia. The old quarters of Barcelona still house Roman buildings and of course the medieval structure. The modern face of Barcelona is however no less interesting. Since the Industrial Revolution in Europe, this city has been home to people belonging to different diversities; thus making this city a cosmopolitan one. Every year in summer Barcelona comes alive with numerous festivals and events succeeding one another. A bit different from other events; Marató De L'espectacle provides a fantastic opportunity to the artists in Barcelona to display their talents.

Juan Eduardo Lopez, the famous Spanish actor and director in 1984 first came up with the idea of Marató De L'espectacle, Barcelona. Hosted at Mercat de les Flors Teatre Lliure Placa Margarita Xirgu; the program gives city’s performing artists to showcase their talents. The performances are given in front of live audience. Often dubbed as eccentric, the performances are however witnessed by quite a large number of people.

With time, the Marató De L'espectacle has become so popular that this program now attracts theatre, dance and circus troupes from all over the world. The performances are given at the Mercat de les Flors. This venue used to be an old flower market. However having now been transformed into three separate halls; this location swarms with thousands of enthusiasts who come to wonder at the superior skill of the artists. The popularity of this program can be further measured by the fact that nearly 200 separate production performances are staged within the stipulated date of a few days at this venue and some other scattered locations. Saving some special events, most of the performances are given absolutely free. A major attraction of Barcelona, the program should not be missed.
