History of the Museum: Marquis of Cerralbo had donated his grand mansion along with all the expensive collections to the state before his death. The museum features the European, paintings and artifacts and all the items are allowed to remain as the family left them.
Structure: the Museum or the building has three floors and all the rooms, ballrooms, libraries and dining spaces of the house are left intact. The ancient, aristocratic aura still pervades the place. Each room has its own surprises and is decorated in the most unique manner.
Collections: Cerrablo had toured the entire Europe with his family and had collected a variety of artifacts that includes coins, medals, books, paintings, sculptures, ceramic ware, glassware, tapestries and also armors. Also, you will get an insight into the daily lifestyle of the noblemen of Madrid. The bronze, granite, marble and alabaster statues enhance the beauty of the rooms of the museum. There are also exotic portraits of mythological themes. There are plenty of old paintings that depict religious themes. However, despite the predominance of religious themes, there are also still life paintings and also flower paintings. What you will find most interesting is perhaps the huge collection of clocks that were mostly crafted by the English and the French clockmakers.

Timings: The museum is open to visitors from Tuesday to Saturday from 9.30am to 3.00pm. The museum opens at 10.00am on Sundays and public holidays but remains closed on all Mondays and also on Christmas and first of January.

can also access the place by metro railway or by car.
