Geomining Museum, Madrid

The Geomining Museum, Madrid, is a part of the Geologic and Mining Institute of Spain and the museum was constructed in the mid - nineteenth century at the request of Isabel II. This glorious museum presents six major collections, mainly that of - Minerals from the Autonomous Regions, Systematic Minerals, Foreign Fossils and Fossilized Vertebrates, Mineral resources, Spanish Flora and Fossilized Invertebrates. It also houses some three thousand five hundred minerals and around six thousand fossils.

The main objective of the Geomining Museum, Madrid, is to investigate, conserve and spread the diversity and wealth of the paleontological, geologic and mineralógico patrimony. This is done by preserving and collecting the rocks, minerals and fossils from major Spanish regions and its old colonial territory. This not only adds scientific importance to the museum but also makes it a museum of immense historical value. The Geomining Museum, Madrid, collects, nourishes and makes mining investigations throughout Spain.

The museum along with the institute conducts various exhibitions and also gives environment education to students.
