The Blind Museum in Madrid is beautifully designed for visually impaired and blind people. All the exhibits here are accessible to touch and the visitors are encouraged to touch articles on display. Run by the Spanish National Organization for the Blind, this Museum is among the few of its kind around the world. Audio tapes help in guiding the visitor's hands over the exhibits, and the building is constructed in a manner to overcome the architectural barriers. The Blind Museum also prints pamphlets in large type as wells in Braille both in Spanish and English.
The exhibits are basically divided into three sections namely -
- One section showcases scale models of worlds greatest
monuments, such as Statue of Liberty, Eiffel Tower etc,
- It museum displays sculptures, tapestries and paintings
made by famous blind artists namely - Miguel Detrel and Jose Antonio Brana.
- The last section includes an overview of all the technological
developments which led to the invention of Brail.
Timings of The Blind Museum, Madrid:
- The Blind Museum in Madrid is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 10:30 in the morning to 2:30 in the afternoon and it reopens after a break at five in the evening to eight at night.
- The museum remains closed for two days i.e. Sundays and Mondays.
