Seville Spring Festival

Spain - Barcelona - Seville - Valencia - Madrid
Seville Spring Festival is the first of the summer fairs celebrated in this beautiful land. The festivities of this April Fair started way back in 1847. This is a perfect expression of the Andalucian personality. The festival takes place always two weeks after the Easter Week.

Features of Seville Spring Festival

  -  A vast area on the far bank of the river, the Real de la Feria gets crowded with rows of casetas, canvas pavilions or tents of varying sizes.
  -  Some of these tents belong to eminent Sevillano families, some to groups of friends and others belong to clubs, trade associations or political parties.
  -  Each tent comes alive from around nine at night until the next morning with flamenco singing and dancing.
  -  The men and women wear traditional costume. The men wear traditional Andalucian wear, short jackets, boots and chaps whilst it is a sheer delight to watch the women all dressed up in brilliantly colored, traditional flounced gypsy dresses.
  -  The grand scale of this spectacle is extraordinary and the dance oozing out intense passion and sensuality, has an irresistible appeal of its own.
  -  Soak up some spirit of the festival, wander amidst the crowds or take part in drinking and dancing in one of the open casetas which have commercial bars.
  -  Some casetas sport the sign of ‘entrance by invitation only’ while others are more welcoming.
  -  The ‘caseta municipal’ is run by the town hall and is one of the largest and open to everyone.
  -  It runs full house if a well known band or singer is on the stage.
  -  From around midday until the early evening, Sevilla society parades around the fairground in carriages or on horseback.
  -  There are also bullfights on a daily basis which are generally considered the best of the season.
