Plaza de Toros de la Maestranza in Seville

The Plaza de Toros de la Maestranza in Seville is the oldest bullring in Spain and it is the renowned venue of the annual Feria de Abril in Seville, one of the most well-known bullfighting festivals in the world. The ring itself is acknowledged as one of the city’s most pleasurable tourist attractions and it also boasts of most frequent visits from tourists from all parts of the world. The Plaza de Toros de la Maestranza, Seville is considered as the most fabulous stage for bullfighting and it has a great reputation for providing one of the world's most challenging environments because of its history, characteristics, and spectators.

The construction of the ring of the Plaza de Toros de la Maestranza in Seville started in 1749 and it got finally completed in 1881 and two thirds of the ring was made up of stone and the remaining portion is of wood. Between 1914 and 1915 the stone grandstands were reconstructed in brick under the direction of Sevillian architect Aníbal González. All the rows were reconstructed with a smoother slope and Ten to twelve rows of shaded seating were built as well as fourteen rows in the sun and three rows of barrier. A row of armchairs were built in the superior part of the shaded area in front of the theater boxes.

Amidst all the architectural and sculptural work of the bullring, visitors must pay special attention to the Prince´s Balcony (1765) which was done by the Portuguese Cayento de Acosta. Underneath is the Prince´s Door, which is closed by a striking iron gate, the work of Pedro Roldán.To walk through this door is the most cherished achievement of all the bullfighting figures. Under the tiered seats of the bullring is the Bullfighting Museum and a visit to this museum ensures an in depth insight to the glorious chapters of the history of this national festival.
