Situated on the banks of the river Guadalquivir, Golden Tower (Torre Del Oro) in Seville is a major attraction amongst tourists. Built by the Moors, it was a part of the city wall and was a watch tower. It was built by the Moors to gain access to the harbor. This imposing structure is a 12 sided tower. The monument is one of the splendid representations of Seville. Several parts of the tower can be traced to the 18th century. It is an ideal representation of the past and one of the remarkable landmarks of the city. Features of Golden Tower (Torre Del Oro) in Seville: - Located on the banks of river Guadalquivir, Torro Del Oro is a 13th century watch tower amidst picturesque surroundings, built during the Almohade period. - This intriguing building is surrounded by orange trees. - It served as the last wall of defense from Alcazar to the river. The tower was adorned in gold tiles. It is therefore called ‘Tower of Gold.’ Another version says that large vessels from America offloaded their treasures here. - It guarded the river against foreign ships. In case of dangers a strong circuit was tied to the watch tower. Another end of the circuit was tied to the other end of the tower. - The tower encloses a small naval museum. - You can also indulge in boat trips near the tower. - It is a fortress tower which used to be connected to another tower on the opposite bank of the river. - You can catch amazing sights of the river from the top of the tower.
