There was a vegetable stall near by, and some youths took the tomatoes from the stall and starting hurling at others until police reached the scene and held the youths responsible for the riot. However, in the next year on the same day the youths brought tomatoes with them and gathered there and started the ‘tomato’ fight’. Again the police intervened. In fact, the authorities banned the celebration in the following year, but no one listened to that and this popular tomato-hurling festival continued.
